In January 2022, as part of
the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, 10 trees were planted, including Callery
pear, Common hawthorne, and wild cherry.
I brought this proposal to Calne Town Council in my role as the Chair of Calne Town Council’s Outdoor Spaces
Committee in September 2021. I was grateful to Cllr Rich Jones, the town mayor and Cllr Merrick, deputy mayor, for their support of this proposal.
The 10 trees have been logged on the Queens Green Canopy website where you can find further information about the scheme itself. The specific tree species that have been planted are:
Common Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) x2
Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) x2
Black Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra') x1
Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer') x1
Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris) x1
Crab Apple (Malus 'Red Sentinel') x1
Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) x1
